FREDERICK, Md.—The new Frederick Police Department headquarters is now complete and officially open as of July 2025.
The new Frederick Police Department headquarters was designed by Proffitt & Associates Architects, in partnership with Waynesboro Construction and Fox & Associates, who provided site planning and civil engineering services.
The group transformed the former William Donald Schaefer State Office Building into a modern, centralized facility tailored for law enforcement needs.
Frederick is a historic city set in the heart of the state, about an hour’s drive northwest of Washington, D.C. and close to the scenic Catoctin Mountains.

Main Details:
- Located at 100 E. All Saints Street, in downtown Frederick
- Renovated from the former William Donald Schaefer Building
- Expanded to 67,000 square feet, with an additional 2,500-square-foot one-story addition
Upgrades & Features:
- Drone launch pad on the roof employed for the “drone as a first responder” program
- New crime labs, evidence intake rooms and storage areas
- Community event space, public lobby and outdoor patio
- A trio of kitchens—plus canine kennels, and multiple interview rooms
- Quiet spaces for officer wellness and a spacious gym with modern equipment
Cost & Funding:
- Total cost: $34 million
- Originally purchased for $6 million in 2021
- Over $5 million funded through state and federal grants
Community Impact:
- Consolidates staff from multiple scattered locations into one cohesive space
- Located directly across from the future African American Heritage Center, symbolizing a commitment to trust and inclusion
- This new HQ was designed to serve Frederick for the next 40 to 50 years, and is already being recognized as a big step forward for both the department and the community.
