SUGAR GROVE, Ill.—Construction is steadily progressing on the new Village of Sugar Grove Police Department Headquarters, a major civic investment designed to modernize law enforcement facilities and support the community’s long‑term public‑safety needs. The 10,500‑square‑foot project—designed by Cordogan Clark and built by R.C. Wegman Construction Company—combines a full renovation of the existing 30‑year‑old building with a significant new addition. The project remains on track for completion this fall, according to recent Village updates.
One of the most visible milestones is the emerging secure sally port, now taking shape on the north side of the building. This specialized structure will support controlled vehicle access for police operations and also serve as a tornado‑resistant shelter, providing hardened life‑safety protection for department staff during severe weather events. Crews have completed backfilling and compaction in this area, and preparations are underway for an in‑floor heating system that will ensure reliable year‑round functionality.
Work on the building’s expanded lobby is also advancing, with footings and foundation walls now poured. Inside the existing facility, modernization efforts are accelerating: HVAC contractors are installing new vents and piping, and plumbing crews have begun slab cuts to accommodate updated fixture locations. These improvements are part of a comprehensive overhaul of the building’s mechanical and life‑safety systems, including a new addressable fire alarm system, upgraded commercial HVAC equipment, and energy‑efficient window replacements.
The redesigned headquarters reflects the evolving needs of modern policing. The project includes expanded evidence processing and storage, updated holding and booking areas that meet current state detention standards, and dedicated spaces for investigations, training, and digital forensics. The new layout also improves operational efficiency by clearly separating public areas from secure police functions, enhancing both safety and workflow.
Beyond interior improvements, the project will deliver a refreshed exterior and upgraded building systems, creating a safe, efficient, and forward‑looking civic presence for Sugar Grove. Village officials emphasize that the renovation will extend the useful life of the facility while supporting the department’s growing responsibilities and the community’s long‑term needs.
During construction, the Police Department continues to operate from its temporary location at 92 Frontage Road.
