GAITHERSBURG, Md.— Montgomery County officials, along with other state and local officials, gathered recently to hail the grand opening of the 6th District Police Station in Gaithersburg, a modern new energy-efficient facility created to serve the Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village communities.

This ground-up project includes a 28,294-square-foot, two-story police station and a 59,526-square-foot, two-level secured parking garage; it is Montgomery County’s first public net-zero, sustainably designed, energy-efficient structure.

The first floor of the station is comprised of public access areas, patrol and support operations, as well as a secure inmate holding area. The second floor, meanwhile, hosts four specialized units including investigative teams, administrative offices, staff support, and a fitness room. The garage boasts secured parking, a spacious evidence room, a vehicle service bay, flare and bicycle storage, and even a designated space for fleet motorcycles.

Doyle Construction served as the builder on the project, and key partners included the Department of General Services and BKV Group, who led the design.
