CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The new CMPD Northwest Division police station in northwest Charlotte, designed as the city’s first net-zero carbon police facility, recently broke ground at 1800 Mt Holly-Huntersville Road. The new venue aims to improve response times for residents in the Mountain Island Lake area and is expected to be completed by mid-2027. Among the highlights are innovative elements focused on safety, technology and environmental sustainability.

Design: Designed by C DESIGN, a Charlotte-based architecture firm. The building is part of the city’s push toward sustainability and is being constructed as a net-zero carbon facility, meaning it will generate as much energy as it consumes.
The facility will include:
- A 16,000-square-foot, single-story steel-frame structure
- Geothermal heating and cooling systems
- A solar field for renewable energy
Features: The facility will be Charlotte’s first net-zero carbon police station, meaning it will run on clean energy and reduce environmental impact. It will also be equipped with the latest safety technology.
