CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The new CMPD Northwest Division police station in northwest Charlotte, designed as the city’s first net-zero carbon police facility, recently broke ground at 1800 Mt Holly-Huntersville Road. The new venue aims to improve response times for residents in the Mountain Island Lake area and is expected to be completed by mid-2027. Among the highlights are innovative elements focused on safety, technology and environmental sustainability.

Further details:

Design: Designed by C DESIGN, a Charlotte-based architecture firm. The building is part of the city’s push toward sustainability and is being constructed as a net-zero carbon facility, meaning it will generate as much energy as it consumes.

The facility will include:

  • A 16,000-square-foot, single-story steel-frame structure
  • Geothermal heating and cooling systems
  • A solar field for renewable energy

Features: The facility will be Charlotte’s first net-zero carbon police station, meaning it will run on clean energy and reduce environmental impact. It will also be equipped with the latest safety technology.

Benefits: The new station is expected to lead to faster response times for residents in the Mountain Island Lake area.

Construction: Construction began in June 2025 and is expected to be completed by mid-2027. Swinerton is reportedly leading the construction of the facility.

Cost: The project is estimated to cost $19.6 million.

Community Impact: The station is designed to be a prominent neighborhood anchor, encouraging revitalization and community engagement.
