RICHMOND, Va.—The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) has officially rolled out DOCHealth, a comprehensive Electronic Health Records (EHR) system designed to enhance healthcare delivery across correctional facilities statewide. The launch marks a major milestone in VADOC’s long-term strategy to modernize inmate healthcare through technology.
DOCHealth streamlines access to medical histories, enabling real-time data sharing and improved coordination among healthcare providers. The system supports better tracking of chronic conditions, treatment compliance, and emergency response—ensuring continuity of care for Virginia’s incarcerated population.
Operationally, DOCHealth replaces paper-based records with digital documentation, reducing storage costs and improving scheduling and resource management. It also integrates with existing correctional management systems, boosting overall efficiency.
The platform introduces standardized care protocols and advanced clinical decision support tools, helping providers monitor health trends and respond swiftly to public health concerns. Infection control and compliance reporting are also strengthened under the new system.
The successful implementation of DOCHealth was made possible through close collaboration between VADOC’s Health Services and Information Technology units, along with vendor partner NaphCare. Their joint efforts ensured seamless integration and optimal performance across facilities.
This system represents a transformative step in VADOC’s commitment to quality care, empowering staff and improving outcomes for those in custody.
With DOCHealth now operational, VADOC is positioned to deliver more efficient, data-driven healthcare while reinforcing its commitment to safety, accountability and public health.
