MIAMI—The new Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department campus, which began the design process late last year, is now estimating to kick off construction in March of 2026.
NELSON Worldwide is furnishing comprehensive design services for the new Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department campus and aiming to smoothly integrate it with the existing TGK detention facility.
The modern complex will be home to vital components of the County’s detention system, including a top-tier Booking and Release Center (BRC), a centralized Warehouse and the Corrections Headquarters—plus a 500-car garage, canine facilities and additional support amenities.
Designed to optimize efficiency in intake, release, and transfer processes, the BRC includes a spacious vehicle sallyport to accommodate high volumes of cars, vans, and buses.
The facility includes open waiting areas, single and group cells, and temporary housing for 195 arrestees, supported by medical, records, classification, and administrative spaces. Additionally, the complex will incorporate four courtrooms for initial appearances, providing dedicated spaces for the Clerk, State Attorney, and Public Defender.
The four-story Corrections Headquarters is being created with employee well-being a high priority, showcasing abundant natural light, modern office environments, and dedicated staff amenities such as breakrooms, fitness areas, training spaces, and dining facilities.
