MANSFIELD, La.—DeSoto Parish is rolling ahead with the construction of a $20 million justice infrastructure project that will bring a new Sheriff’s Office and 150-bed detention center to Mansfield. The single-story facility will span approximately 46,440 square feet and is designed to replace aging infrastructure while expanding the parish’s capacity for inmate housing and law enforcement operations. The new complex is expected to meet modern correctional standards and improve both operational efficiency and public accessibility.
The project, which broke ground in July, for is being led by a team of experienced partners. Grace Hebert Curtis Architects is serving as the architectural consultant, responsible for the design and planning of the facility. Newman Marchive Inc. is overseeing project administration, including coordination and bidding. Ratcliff Construction was selected as the general contractor after submitting the lowest bid during the public procurement process managed by the DeSoto Parish Police Jury.
Funding for the project is being provided through a combination of Police Jury allocations and departmental resources from the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Jayson Richardson has committed internal funds to support the administrative portion of the development. The engineer’s estimate for the full scope of work was $26 million, suggesting the possibility of contingency planning or phased expansion.
Construction is expected to continue through 2026, with phased openings anticipated as the facility nears completion. Once operational, the new complex will aim to enhance public safety, streamline law enforcement operations, and provide a secure and humane detention environment for DeSoto Parish.
