LACEY, Wash.—The new Lacey Police Department and Regional Training Center is entering its final phase of construction, marking a major milestone for public‑safety infrastructure in one of Washington’s fastest‑growing communities. With substantial completion expected within the next month, the project represents a significant investment in modern justice design—one that blends operational efficiency, community engagement, and long‑term adaptability.

Designed by KMB Architects, the 48,000‑square‑foot headquarters replaces Lacey’s undersized 1985 police facility and is planned to expand to nearly 80,000 square feet as the city’s population and policing needs evolve. The project also includes a 9,500‑square‑foot training center, an emergency operations center, a community room, and a contemporary indoor firearms range. Together, these elements create a consolidated hub for law enforcement operations, officer development, and public interaction—an increasingly common model in next‑generation civic safety facilities.

Construction has now shifted into its final stretch. Perimeter fencing is nearing completion, the facility’s large emergency generator has been installed, and signage and furniture are being placed throughout the complex. These activities signal the transition from structural and systems work to commissioning and operational readiness. Once substantial completion is reached, the city will begin preparing the building for occupancy, including technology integration, staff orientation, and final safety testing.

The project reflects a close partnership between the City of Lacey, the Lacey Police Department, KMB Architects, and the construction team, FORMA Construction. Within KMB, Project Manager Bryan Andrei C. Beley, Senior Project Architect Janna Peters, and Staff Architect Daniel Shanks have led the design and construction‑administration effort, guiding the project through programming, technical coordination, and the complexities of a multi‑year civic build. Their leadership has helped ensure the facility meets both immediate operational needs and long‑term community goals.

The significance of the project extends beyond the region. KMB Architects will present the full project story at the National Station Design Conference in May, highlighting the facility’s design strategies, program integration, and delivery approach. As police departments nationwide grapple with aging infrastructure, evolving training requirements, and shifting community expectations, Lacey’s new complex offers a case study in how thoughtful justice design can support transparency, preparedness, and public trust.

With substantial completion imminent and final commissioning on the horizon, the Lacey Police Department and Regional Training Center is poised to become a cornerstone of public‑safety service for decades to come.
