PHOENIX—DLR Group has welcomed Jim Miller, AIA—with an outstanding portfolio spanning decades—as Justice+Civic Leader. The firm hailed his thoughtful approach to civic architecture as a perfect fit for their people-first design ethos.

Based in Phoenix, Miller is a seasoned architect and project executive with 34 years of experience. He brings a portfolio of impactful justice and civic architecture and a deep commitment to community-driven design.

Miller recently joined DLR Group as a Principal after an 18-year tenure at Gould Evans, a renowned national firm where he led a broad range of award-winning justice and civic projects including such significant projects as the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Justice Center, which received an AIA National Honor Award, and the Southeast Justice Center, which earned both RED and AIA Arizona Honor Awards.

DLR Group’s Global Justice+Civic Leader Darrell Stelling commented that, “Jim’s ability to deliver technically excellent, socially responsive architecture aligns with DLR Group’s integrated design philosophy. He understands how to create environments that reflect the communities they serve, and he brings decades of Southwest experience to our Justice+Civic studio.”

Miller began his career in the AEC industry in 1984 and steadily advanced through key design and leadership roles at local, regional, and national firms. He has amassed a remarkable range of project experience, including civic and governmental buildings, behavioral health centers, higher education athletic and office facilities, crisis housing, and equitable community master plans. His work is noted for its sustainability, regional sensitivity, and dedication to historically underserved populations.

“I’m thrilled to join DLR Group and contribute to a team so deeply invested in public architecture that matters,” Miller remarked. “The Justice+Civic studio’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and design excellence reflects values I’ve held throughout my career.”

At DLR Group, Miller will help guide the strategic vision for justice and civic work, focusing on courts, public safety, and community projects that foster trust, transparency and healing.
