LEWISVILLE, Texas — Horton Automatics has announced the release of its HD-Ballistic™ sliding door system, a bullet-resistant solution certified to UL 752 Level 3 standards. Designed to meet growing security demands across healthcare, commercial, and public sectors, the HD-Ballistic marks a significant advancement in high-security pedestrian access.
The product addresses a longstanding gap in the market for aluminum-and-glass ballistic sliding doors. Its development was driven by real-world project needs, including the upcoming multi-billion-dollar Indiana University Medical Center installation in 2025, which required bullet-resistant entry systems.
As threats to public spaces continue to rise, ballistic doors are becoming essential infrastructure. Facilities such as hospitals, government buildings, schools, and financial institutions increasingly require proactive safety measures. Horton’s HD-Ballistic offers a critical layer of protection while preserving accessibility and architectural aesthetics.
The door system underwent full-scale ballistic testing by Intertek, successfully withstanding .44 Magnum rounds under extreme temperatures ranging from -26°F to 120°F. Its construction features reinforced aluminum frames, Kevlar fiber infill, and ballistic-grade glazing supplied by Trulite.
Key features include UL 752 Level 3 certification, a sleek sliding configuration with minimal visible fasteners, and finish options such as anodized, powder coat, wet paint, and clad. It supports heavy-duty panels up to 350 lbs. and offers keyswitch, battery backup, and fail-safe autolock options. The HD-Ballistic is available in both single and bi-parting formats.
Target applications span government buildings like courthouses and police stations, healthcare environments including emergency departments and trauma centers, educational facilities, and commercial spaces such as banks and data centers.
“HD-Ballistic enables Horton to compete directly with long-standing market leaders and unlocks new revenue streams through high-margin security packages,” said J Elias Campos, Vice President of Marketing. “More importantly, it offers peace of mind without sacrificing design or automation. While some manufacturers market products that meet certain portions of UL 752, Horton is the only manufacturer truly certified to comply with all the requirements of this standard.”
