EAST LAS VEGAS, Nev.—For nearly three decades, the residents of East Las Vegas lived with a persistent geographical reality: emergency help was always just a bit too far away. While other corridors of the rapidly expanding Las Vegas valley saw new civic infrastructure spring up to match local population booms, this distinct pocket relied on police units stationed miles to the west and north.

That spatial disconnect has finally entered its final countdown to erasure. Following a site progress inspection by Sheriff Kevin McMahill, the rising structure of the future Hollywood Area Command is rapidly transforming from a blueprint into a permanent neighborhood anchor. With construction moving forward seamlessly, project officials are strictly aiming for an August 2026 completion date. This concrete timeline represents a long-awaited public safety investment into one of the valley’s most historically underserved communities.

The physical manifestation of this project represents a tight coordination between county management, law enforcement, and regional design teams. Financed entirely by Clark County capital improvement taxpayer dollars, the project is overseen by the Clark County Department of Public Works in direct partnership with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) facilities wing. To bring the precinct to life, the county tapped two prominent Nevada-based firms: KGA Architecture (Kitchen Gladhill Associates) for architectural master planning and Builders United, LLC as the general commercial contractor.

Tasked with drafting a structure that could handle intense operational demands while blending organically into a civic and residential landscape, KGA Architecture conceptualized a highly optimized 22,764-square-foot footprint. Rather than designing an imposing, isolated fortress, KGA aligned the building’s aesthetic profile with the existing architectural language of its immediate neighbors at 2300 S. Hollywood Blvd. The station anchors a consolidated public safety and community campus, sitting directly adjacent to Clark County Fire Station 31, the Hollywood Recreation Center, and a regional aquatic facility.

Internally, KGA’s floor plans were engineered to solve a complex, dual-purpose operational puzzle. Upon its slated August 2026 opening, the Hollywood Area Command will initially act as a transitional host, temporarily housing the Southeast Area Command’s operations while its legacy station undergoes comprehensive modern renovations. Once those upgrades conclude, the Southeast team will rotate back, allowing a permanent contingent of Hollywood-designated officers, detectives, and support staff to fully occupy the location as a long-term hub for East Las Vegas.

To execute this complex design, general contractor Builders United, LLC has pushed building crews steadily ahead of schedule. The structural milestone was visually cemented during the Sheriff’s tour, when teams mounted the bold white lettering reading “Sheriff Kevin McMahill” across the facility’s prominent front canopy. Behind that canopy sits an infrastructure built for robust, full-scale municipal law enforcement. Builders United is implementing the specialized technical layouts required for both standard neighborhood patrol deployment and live booking and temporary detention facilities.

The primary operational dividend for East Las Vegas residents will be measured in minutes. Currently, this sector relies on overlapping coverage from the Southeast Area Command on Flamingo Road and the Northeast Area Command near Nellis Air Force Base. Because units must routinely travel 15 to 20 minutes across heavy traffic corridors just to reach local dispatches, emergency response metrics have lagged. By nesting the new station directly adjacent to Las Vegas High School near the Sahara Avenue intersection, emergency response times are expected to drop precipitously.

Yet, as Sheriff McMahill noted, the facility’s success won’t just be quantified by faster clocks, but by stronger relationships. The Hollywood Command is being built with designated public-facing community rooms designed to host neighborhood watch programs, town halls, and localized outreach initiatives. A central tenet of the incoming command’s mandate will be collaborating directly with county social services to implement proactive, compassionate solutions for property crime and the local unhoused population. By embedding officers permanently within the fabric of the community, the precinct aims to build deep-seated trust, establishing a long-term hub of safety, visibility, and mutual respect.
