YORK COUNTY, Pa.—In a bold step toward modernizing public safety infrastructure, the Northern York County Regional Police Department (NYCRPD) officially opened its new headquarters in early September.

Located at One Regional Way in the Manchester Commerce Center, the 34,000-square-foot facility marks a transformative upgrade from the department’s former landlocked station on East Canal Road.

Designed by Buchart Horn Architects and built by ECI Construction, the new building reflects a forward-thinking approach to law enforcement. The architecture was shaped by a 2021 feasibility study, which laid the foundation for a space that could meet the evolving demands of a growing community. Today, NYCRPD serves over 88,000 residents across 11 municipalities in York County, making it the largest regional police department in Pennsylvania.

The facility boasts state-of-the-art features tailored to both operational efficiency and officer wellness. Highlights include a forensic lab for evidence processing, a secure storage area for weapons and narcotics, and four evidence bays. A 2,500-square-foot meeting room and multiple classrooms support community engagement and ongoing training, while an 800-square-foot fitness center and expanded locker rooms—designed for both male and female officers—underscore the department’s commitment to inclusivity and health.

A standout addition is the Emergency Operations Center, which enhances the department’s ability to coordinate responses during major incidents. The building also incorporates hands-on and virtual reality training spaces, preparing officers for a wide range of scenarios with cutting-edge simulation technology.

The $15 million project was made possible through a blend of funding sources, including a $4.5 million state grant from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), municipal contributions, private sponsorships, and a generous land donation from NorthPoint Development, which provided 11 acres for the build.

With a current complement of 68 sworn officers and room to expand to over 100, the new headquarters positions NYCRPD as a regional hub for law enforcement excellence. It’s more than just a building—it’s a symbol of the department’s dedication to innovation, community service, and the future of policing in York County.
