Garrett Metal Detectors announced on September 9 the release of a significant software upgrade for its flagship walk-through metal detector, Paragon. The update introduces a suite of performance enhancements powered by Garrett’s proprietary advanced AI security platform, marking a major step forward in machine learning-based threat detection.

According to the company, the new software stems from developments in its proprietary AI platform and is designed to elevate Paragon’s operational capabilities across five key areas:

  • Enhanced multi-target alarm indication, enabling more precise identification of threat object locations
  • Improved pinpointing accuracy without ghosting, zone drift, or false alarms
  • Strengthened interference immunity for reliable performance in electrically noisy environments
  • Compliance with the ECAC screening program, meeting stringent European aviation standards
  • Refined Japanese language menu naturalization to better serve global customers

“Paragon is a powerful platform, and one in which we are going to continue to invest. Unlike some competing products, this software does not require user input and will not evolve its security levels without an update. We think it’s important that our customers can trust what they get from day one and not worry about incorrect inputs corrupting the detection algorithms,” said Aaron Arellano, Senior Product Manager of Garrett. “This update lays the foundation for future updates that will change industry perceptions on what’s possible with walk-through metal detection systems. AI can be a buzzword, but it is not an exaggeration to say the AI work we’ve done in our development tools is revolutionizing what Paragon is and will be capable of doing. This update isn’t just a significant improvement on Paragon’s capabilities; it’s a signal to keep your eyes on Garrett, because there’s much more where this came from.”

Manufactured at Garrett’s Garland, Texas facility, Paragon remains protected by design patents and trademarks. The new software is compatible with all previous Paragon versions. Garrett advises customers to purchase only from reputable sources to ensure product authenticity and performance.
